I’ve been away. Did you miss me?

I know. I know. It’s August and everybody’s away but that’s not what I’m talking about here. This was no vacation. I went someplace that everyone who wants to grow – personally or professionally – must go. And while I’m really glad I went, I’m much happier now that I’m back.

Can you guess where I was? (It’s kind of a trick question…)

Here are some hints:

I did not go with the Sheriff, although I do believe he’s been there.
It’s a great place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there. (It’s kind of cloudy year-round.)
Anyone can afford it. In fact, few can afford not to go.
A lot of famous people have been there. Oprah. The President. But it’s unlikely you’ll bump into them.

Maybe it would help if I told you that I went there because I wanted to write an ebook. In fact, I was so motivated to write the book that I signed up for an ebook bootcamp. Which is what led me to this place that I didn’t really enjoy – but I’d encourage anyone to go.

Any guesses? Bueller? Bueller?

Okay, I will tell you where I’ve been. And the reason I am telling you is because on Sept.15th my new ebook will be available here at the ParmFarm and I want you to know where I had to go in order to write it because I feel I am a better person for having been there.

I had to go outside my comfort zone.

That’s where I’ve been.
For weeks.
And let me tell you something, it was not fun.

Being outside my comfort zone was kind of like being stung by a bee, only it lasted longer.

I hadn’t been stung by a bee since I was a kid so I had actually convinced myself that it probably didn’t hurt as much as I remembered. Then I got stung again. $^%#&!!!!

Same with writing the ebook. I hadn’t been outside my comfort zone in a while so I just thought ‘Hey, I’m a writer. How bad could it be?’ $^%#&@!!

Suffice to say it stung — but mostly because it was unexpected.

I just put my face right up to the hive and said ‘Hey! What’s going on in there?? Can a girl get a little honey?’

Not a good approach.

I knew it, but I forgot. So I’m sharing this reminder:

If you want to grow, you must travel outside your comfort zone. But you don’t have to fly.

Just like you don’t have to get stung to get honey.

And you know what’s funny? That’s what my book is about!
